Pollution is a major issue in the modern world. Right from the smoke in the air to the toxins in water, it is everywhere. For this reason, it is essential to detox the body and incorporate ways to prevent the harmful effects of pollution on the body. Pollution causes both physical and physiological harm. Ayurveda has numerous ways to keep the body hale and hearty and boost mental health and immunity as well. All this, while preventing pollution from harming regular functioning of the body.

NEEM

Neem is a powerful antioxidant and has an intense detoxifying effect. It can be boiled with water and used to wash the hair and face. It can be used for the entire body as well to rid any toxins or harmful microbes. Neem water can be used to cleanse the house as well. Neem leaves can be chewed daily to improve blood purity and enhance immunity.

TULSI

Tulsi plants are commonly kept in Indian households because of their air purifying properties. Tulsi can enhance the quality of air within the house and make it easier to breathe. Tulsi also helps the lungs and clears the respiratory tract. Make a Tulsi tea and add some honey for the best Ayurvedic remedy against pollution related respiratory issues.

GHEE

Nasyam is an ayurvedic practice which has shown great proficiency in eliminating the harmful toxins that has entered the body from the atmosphere. Similarly, replacing the sesame oil with ghee and applying a bit of it inside the nostrils each morning, ensures that pollutants are kept at bay. This makes breathing easy, and stops anything harmful from entering the lungs.

TURMERIC

Turmeric is used in Ayurveda in a number of ways. Golden milk made with turmeric enhances immunity and can be had warm every night before bed. It can also be boiled with other ayurvedic herbs and made into an herbal tea. This helps purify the body and rid any pollutants from entering the blood stream and the digestive system.

LONG PEPPER

Long pepper or pippali is an ayurvedic spice which is extremely potent. It makes a great remedy for any congestion caused by pollution. Simply make an herbal tea with a mixture of ginger, turmeric, black pepper and long pepper. This will soothe the throat and cleanse the entire respiratory tract. This prevents any infections or difficulty breathing.

AYURVEDIC MEDICINES

Chyawanprash and Triphala are two powerful ayurvedic remedies which can help tackle the effects of pollution. Take a spoonful of Chyawanprash every morning to experience enhanced immunity. Triphala can be had in capsule form or in a hot mixture for the best results. Both these have shown great improvement in overall health and wellbeing.

Always consult an ayurvedic doctor for remedies for ailments and the best way to incorporate Ayurveda into your life.
